OSHA cites AB InBev alleging ‘serious’ US safety violations
An influential US Department of Labor safety body has cited Anheuser-Busch, alleging that the firm failed to protect Houston brewery workers from exposure to carbon dioxide and other workplace hazards.

Hundreds Die While Making Clothes for J.C. Penney, Benetton and others in Bangladesh
The hundreds in Bangladesh killed and injured from the building collapse last week were making clothes for American and European retailers and brands, including JCPenney and Benetton. More than 3,000 people, mostly young women, worked in the Rana Plaza building that contained five garment factories producing items for JCPenney, Cato Fashions, Benetton, Primark, Canada’s Joe Fresh, Walmart’s Canadian operation and others. Temporary Worker Killed at Bacardi Bottling, OSHA Says Company Failed to Train
OSHA has cited Bacardi Bottling in Jacksonville, Fla., with willful and serious violations following the death of a temporary worker during his first day at work. Proposed penalties for the violations total $192,000.

Komatsu fined $82,000 for 'serious violations' before worker death
Federal inspectors have charged Komatsu with safety violations and proposed an $82,000 fine in connection with a fatal workplace accident in August.

California sues oil company for environmental violations
State Attorney General Kamala Harris is going after Arco and its parent company BP. In a lawsuit filed Monday, the state attorney general and seven counties are accusing the oil company of violating regulations designed to protect the environment.

Truck company fined for safety violations after forklift accident
The state [of North Carolina] has fined Daimler Trucks for safety violations following a forklift accident last summer. The Labor Department cited Daimler for one alleged serious violation of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina with a total penalty of $2,750.

Wash. fines BP $81,500 for safety violations
Washington state has fined BP more than $80,000 for safety violations at the oil giant's Cherry Point refinery in Whatcom County. The Department of Labor & Industries announced Thursday that it fined BP for six violations, including a "willful violation," of workplace safety.

Shell, BASF ordered to pay $500 mln in Brazil pollution case
A Brazilian judge has ordered oil giant Shell and chemical behemoth BASF to pay $500 million in compensation for hundreds of ex-workers suing for damages in a suspected plant contamination case, a judicial source said Monday.

Banana Plantation Workers Sue Dole, Dow & Chiquita for Exposing Them to DBCP – Cancer Causing Pesticide
Hundreds of Latin American plantation workers claimed in court that Dole Foods, Chiquita, Dow Chemicals and other multinational companies deliberately exposed them to dibromochloropropane (DBCP). DBCP is a pesticide known to cause cancer and sterility. DBCP is banned in the United States.

Vale charged in fatal Ontario mine tragedy
Health and safety charges have been laid against a mining company and one of its supervisors in the deaths of two Sudbury, Ont., miners, provincial Labour Minister Matt Blajer announced in a news release Thursday. Both workers were killed when a torrent of wet mud and ore flooded the tunnel where they were working at Vale's Stobie Mine in Sudbury on June 8, 2011.

Brazil prosecutors seek payment from Shell, BASF
On May 30th 2012, Brazilian prosecutors said that they asked a court to force oil company Shell and the world's largest chemical company, BASF, to immediately pay $500 million into a compensation fund for hundreds of workers who may have been contaminated at an agricultural chemicals plant.

US Labor Department's OSHA cites Johnson Controls Battery Group for exposing workers to lead, other hazards at Holland, Ohio, plant
The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Johnson Controls Battery Group Inc. for 11 alleged health violations - including one willful and two repeat - following an Oct. 25 inspection that was initiated based on a complaint. Inspectors found workers overexposed to lead at the company's Holland plant due to a lack of engineering controls and poor housekeeping practices. Proposed fines total $188,600.

Veolia fined after agency worker sustained serious burns
Waste management provider Veolia Environmental Services has been fined after an agency worker was seriously burned by hot ash at an incineration depot in Deptford, U.K.

New Zealand Leader Wants Brazil's Petrobras Out After Deadly Explosion
Manu Caddie, a Gisborne District Councilor in New Zealand, has renewed his call for the government to suspend the East Coast exploration permit for Brazilian state-controlled oil and gas multinational Petrobras following a lethal explosion at a Petrobras refinery in Argentina, which left an employee dead and another gravely wounded.
