The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has sent formal requests to Italy's Eni SpA and France's Total SA related to the companies' Libyan businesses, the companies disclosed in regulatory filings.

Eni Spa is a Global Compact participant since 2001/07/01. Total S.A. is a Global Compact participant since 2002/03/07.
Both Total and ENI were Gold Contributors to the Foundation for the Global Compact in 2010.
This blog provides information on how U.N. Global Compact participants' walk the talk. The GC is a voluntary initiative at the strategic level to engage businesses towards sustainability principles. There is however a risk of 'blue-washing' by covering up corporate misbehaviour and law infringement from large MNEs through poorly enforced 'Integrity Measures' and weak U.N supervision.
