EADS executives warned five years ago about questionable payments

Senior executive at EADS, the European aerospace and defence group that owns Airbus, were warned five years ago about questionable payments that are now part of an investigation by the Serious Fraud Office. The U.K. Serious Fraud Office said last week it is investigating possible bribes by a British subsidiary of EADS (EAD.PA), GPT Special Project Management Ltd. Read more on the Telegraph. Former France Telecom CEO indicted over 35 suicides

Former France Telecom chief executive Didier Lombard has been indicted by a court in Paris and bailed over allegations that he led a corporate culture of bullying and harassment that resulted in the suicide of at least 30 employees. Sodexho fined $81K for violations at W.Va. college

Federal officials said Thursday they intend to fine Sodexho Inc. $81,000 for health and safety violations that occurred when workers were removing asbestos earlier this year at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi. More on Businessweek. Sodexo Inc, is a U.S. subsidiary of French giant Sodexo S.A.(SDXAY:OTC US),(SW:EN Paris), a Global Compact participant since 2003/03/06. Sodexo was a Gold Contributor to the Foundation for the Global Compact in 2010.

Tata Power’s Mundra project has violated social, eco norms: Report

Tata Power Ltd, which is setting up the 4,000-MW Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) in Mundra, Gujarat, has been accused of violating social and environmental norms by an independent fact-finding team. The project has caused “massive damage to livelihood, marine life and the overall environment in the vicinity of the power plant,” says a report titled ‘The Real Cost of Power'. Shell, BASF ordered to pay $500 mln in Brazil pollution case

A Brazilian judge has ordered oil giant Shell and chemical behemoth BASF to pay $500 million in compensation for hundreds of ex-workers suing for damages in a suspected plant contamination case, a judicial source said Monday. Enbridge faces $3.7M fine for Michigan oil spill

Federal regulators proposed a $3.7 million civil penalty Monday against the Canadian owner of a pipeline that ruptured in 2010, dumping more than three billion litres of oil into a southwestern Michigan river. GlaxoSmithKline allegedly bribing Polish doctors

Prosecutors and the Polish Anti-Corruption Bureau are investigating reports that UK-based pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline allegedly bribed doctors in Poland to prescribe their drugs ahead of other manufacturers. Pfizer Settles Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Violation For China Business

U.S.-based Pfizer Inc. says it has resolved U.S. Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission matters related to certain improper payments in the operations of two of its subsidiaries outside the United States, which Pfizer voluntarily reported to the U.S. government beginning in 2004. Lonmin Mine Death Toll Reaches 34 As Police Kill Strikers

South African police killed 34 striking workers at Lonmin Plc (LMI)’s Marikana platinum-mining complex yesterday, the worst death toll in police action since the end of apartheid in 1994. At least 78 people were injured in the clashes, Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega told reporters in Marikana in North West province today. More on Bloomberg. Mexican regulators impose highest fine ever on HSBC for money-laundering

Mexico's National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) said it had imposed the fine against HSBC due to its “non-compliance with anti-money laundering systems and controls”. KPK Examines Alstom Director in Graft Case

JAKARTA (Indonesia Today) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has expanded the investigation of Tarahan Steam Power Plan graft allegation. The antigraft commission summons Eko Sulianto, Development Director of PT Alstom Indonesia. More on Indonesia Today. Alstom (ALO:FP) is a Global Compact participant since 2008/03/18. It is a Member of the Working Group on the 10th Principle. Alstom was also a Gold contributor to the Foundation for the Global Compact in 2011.
